TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Let's Go Shopping - Started slow, but closed very fast in debut; flattered when Soaring Lauren won next time out.
Awesome Feat - Tepid chalk in a wide open affair; dropped first time into a claimer and ran a much improved race.
Long Shot - Unbridled Penny
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $61,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Ventura - English invader makes her U.S. debut for Bobby Frankel; she draws the attention of Gomez, could be any kind.
Nottingham Forest - Like the turn back in distance from 2-turn routes for this hillside race; should be firing fast late.
Long Shot - Heathersdaddysbaby
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up
Aggressive - Never had a chance last time on a speed favoring strip; dropped in class, can run over the top of these.
Lord Albion - Ran horribly in last, but he's a lot better than that; forgiving handicappers catch him at a square price.
Long Shot - Alittlebitleft
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Snow Delicious - Leap of faith that the top connections, Bejarano and O'Neill, have something going; watch the tote board.
Linda Lou - Going with the FTS because those with experience show so little; Espinoza and Mandella offer something.
Long Shot - Gale in the Vale
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds
Familiar Stranger - Big class drop off a sharp run for $35k; Sadler has won out already, gets the purse, lose the horse.
Quinton's Fleet - Another horse with plenty of back class in a red flag spot; Gomez and Mitchell are a heady connection.
Long Shot - Candy's Bro
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail 30 feet), Purse $34,000, 4-year-olds and up
Brilliant Cut - Speedball will enjoy the turf rail out 30 feet today; rare Frankel charge that will be speed crazy.
Kingdom Come - Sleeper is better on turf so draw a line thru his last start; suspect will be flying fast late.
Long Shot - Rival Islands
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Street Boss - Did everything but win last time in a sharp try; this is a good spot for him to rebuild his confidence.
Carrilero - Biggest question is he's been away 3-months; long shot second in the Malibu, can prove that is was no fluke.
Long Shot - Temecula Creek
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
Indianski - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; his race two back is fast enough to win.
Cape Hatchet - Second time out Sherman babies typically improve a lot; found his best stride too late in debut.
Long Shot - Quacker Jack
Best Bet - Street Boss (race 7)
Santa Anita Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$24.20; Long Shots, 7/3/$31.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 734/166/$1,226.00; Long Shots, 363/50/$635.80; Best Bets, 40/12/$51.80
