Huddy’s hat trick helps Wranglers edge Condors

Ryan Huddy scored three straight goals in the second period, and Colin Long netted the game winner as the Wranglers beat the Bakersfield Condors 4-3 in the ECHL season opener Saturday night in Bakersfield, Calif.

Las Vegas, which trailed 1-0 after the first period, got rolling when Huddy scored 58 seconds into the second, then added his second goal less than two minutes later to make the score 2-1.

Huddy made the score 3-1 with seven minutes left in the second, but Bakersfield rallied with two goals about a minute apart midway through the third. Stephane Goulet scored with 9:36 remaining, and Jean-Marc Beaudoin followed 71 seconds later to make it 3-3.

Long then struck with 6:29 remaining, and the Wranglers made it hold up. Las Vegas goaltender Michael Ouzas finished with 27 saves, and Bakersfield's Peter Hirsch had 18 stops.

The Wranglers next face Victoria in the home opener Friday at the Orleans Arena.
