Source: Cuban pitcher reaches deal with Reds

Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman has agreed to a deal with the Cincinnati Reds, ending one of the biggest questions in baseball this offseason.

A person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press about the agreement Sunday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract hadn't been finalized. The Reds scheduled a news conference for today.

Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the deal.

Chapman gained notoriety during the World Baseball Classic in March, when he pitched well against Australia and badly against Japan. With a 100 mph fastball, he is considered by scouts to be among the top pitching prospects in the world, but there are questions about his readiness for the majors.

Chapman threw a bullpen session for major league teams in Houston last month, and the Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox also were thought to be among potential suitors.

Also: The New York Post reported that Yankees star shortstop Derek Jeter and girlfriend Minka Kelly will be married Nov. 5 on Long Island.

Acting on a tip, a reporter posing as a bride-to-be spotted an entry reading "JETER wedding" on the calendar for the Oheka Castle in Huntington, N.Y. Sales manager Rick Bellando insisted that a celebrity wouldn't be listed under his real name when the reporter pointed it out.

The San Francisco Giants and first baseman Aubrey Huff have agreed to a one-year contract pending a physical.

Huff, 33, was traded from Baltimore to Detroit in August. He batted .241 with 15 homers and 85 RBIs in 150 games between the two teams.

Also: NBC Universal said it expects to lose money televising the Winter Olympics from Vancouver, British Columbia, next month.

NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol said the loss comes primarily due to the stiff rights fee the company paid to broadcast the games, he said.

NBC paid $820 million for the rights to televise the Winter Games.

Ebersol said it will be the first time NBC has lost money on the games since he began producing the telecasts from Barcelona in 1992.
