Bolt disqualified in 100
world final for false start

Usain Bolt was disqualified Sunday in the 100-meter final for a false start, depriving the Jamaican of a chance to defend his title at the world track and field championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Bolt was disqualified because of a highly debated, zero-tolerance false-start rule enacted last year.

Jamaican Yohan Blake won the event, finishing in a modest time of 9.92 seconds, 0.16 seconds ahead of American Walter Dix.

Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius finished third in 45.39 seconds in his first heat of the 400 meters to advance to the semifinals.

UNLV assistant track coach Khadevis Robinson failed to qualify for the 800-meter final, finishing fifth in his semifinal heat in 1 minute, 45.27 seconds.

Power takes Sonoma
flag again, cuts deficit

Will Power won his second straight Indy Racing League event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and Team Penske teammates Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe finished second and third.

Power led 71 of 75 laps to post his fifth victory of the season and move within 26 points of overall leader Dario Franchitti with four races left. Franchitti was fourth.

Danica Patrick took 21st in what was probably her final IndyCar race. He will join NASCAR full time in 2012.

Also: Defending Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel won the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa to strengthen his overall lead with seven races remaining.

Vettel, who started from the pole, leads Red Bull teammate Mark Webber, who took second, by 92 points in the standings.

Australian motorcycle star Casey Stoner pulled away for a 4.828-second victory over Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa in the Indianapolis MotoGP.

New Zealand's Rhys Millen defeated Ireland's Darren McNamara in the final round to win the Formula DRIFT Round 6 After Dark title Saturday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Japan's Daijiro Yoshihara retained the season points lead with one event left.

Lincicome overcomes
rain, wins by one stroke

Brittany Lincicome sank a par putt on the 18th hole in a driving rain to win the Canadian Women's Open in Mirabel, Quebec, by one stroke.

Lincicome closed with a 2-under-par 70 to edge defending champion Michelle Wie and Stacy Lewis. Lincicome finished at 13-under 275.

Fears that the tournament would not be concluded because of remnants of Tropical Storm Irene did not pan out. It rained heavily on the back nine for the leaders and there were gusting winds, but nothing that forced a stoppage of play.

Also: Mark Calcavecchia won the Boeing Classic for his first Champions Tour title, beating Russ Cochran with a two-putt birdie on the first hole of a playoff in Snoqualmie, Wash. Both players shot final-round 7-under 65s to finish at 14-under 202.

Thomas Bjorn captured the European PGA Tour's Johnnie Walker Championship in Gleneagles, Scotland, winning a five-man playoff on the fifth extra hole. He birdied the par-5 No. 18 to defeat George Coetzee.

Bjorn, Coetzee, Bernd Wiesberger, Pablo Larrazabal and Mark Foster finished regulation at 11-under 277.

Kelly Kraft, who just finished his senior season at Southern Methodist, took the lead when No. 1-ranked Patrick Cantlay bogeyed the 16th hole, then hung on for a 2-up victory in the U.S. Amateur 36-hole final at Erin, Wis.

The UNLV women's soccer team lost its third straight 1-0 game, this one to Oregon in Eugene. Julie Armstrong scored in the sixth minute, dropping the Rebels to 1-3 this season.
