Dialed In wins Florida Derby,
enters Triple Crown picture

Nick Zito now has three Florida Derby wins. Soon, a third Kentucky Derby victory might be within the Hall of Fame trainer's reach.

Dialed In made a late charge -- his signature move -- and barely beat 60-1 long shot Shackleford to win the Grade 1 race at Gulfstream Park on Sunday in Hallandale Beach, Fla. Dialed In covered 1 1/8 miles in 1 minute, 50.07 seconds to take home $600,000 of the
$1 million purse.

Perhaps more importantly, Dialed In cemented himself as a major contender for the Triple Crown season that starts with the Kentucky Derby on May 7.

Ridden by Julien Leparoux, Dialed In has three wins in four career starts, with earnings of $879,206. His career began with a maiden win at Churchill Downs on Nov. 12, a race that started to build some buzz around the horse.

That'll continue for another five weeks, until he heads back to Churchill, perhaps as one of the favorites in the Run for the Roses.

Dialed In returned $7.80, $4.80 and $4. Shackleford, who went to the lead early and nearly stayed there until the end, was second and paid $36.60 and $15.20.
