Locomotives QB Rattay done
for season with Achilles' injury

The Locomotives announced Sunday that quarterback Tim Rattay ruptured his right Achilles' tendon during Friday's 26-3 road victory over Sacramento and will miss the remainder of the United Football League season.

Rattay completed 83 of 126 passes this year, for 791 yards and three touchdowns. He had four interceptions and was sacked six times in four games for Las Vegas, which is tied with Omaha for first place at 3-1.

Coach Jim Fassel said the starting job will now go to either Drew Willy or Chase Clement. Willy, who played college football at Buffalo, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens in 2009 and later was on the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad. Clement was the Conference USA Most Valuable Player in 2008, his senior year at Rice.

Olympic standout White wins
Dew Tour skateboard final

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White showed he's just as effective on a skateboard as a snowboard, winning the Skate Vert final in the Dew Tour Championships at the Hard Rock Hotel.

White scored 90.75 points, edging Pierre-Luc Gagnon, who scored 89.00 and wrapped up the season-long overall title.

In BMX Vert, Chad Kagy won the final, and Jamie Bestwick took second to secure the season title.

Also: English soccer star Wayne Rooney has reportedly told Manchester United that he wants to leave the Premier League club, although the club said speculation that the star striker will be sold in the January transfer window was "nonsense."

Several British newspapers -- including the Guardian and Telegraph -- reported on their websites that Rooney has fallen out with Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson since allegations surfaced about the player's private life last month.

The reports said Rooney has told the club he will not sign a new contract, which could force United to sell the striker before he becomes a free agent.

FIFA executive committee member Reynald Temarii acknowledged that he made a mistake talking with undercover reporters about deals for his World Cup hosting vote, but he defended his integrity.

Temarii told The Associated Press he met FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Sunday to ask him to launch an ethics investigation, after the London Sunday Times filmed him saying he wanted $2.3 million to fund a soccer academy in Auckland, New Zealand.

FIFA's independent ethics panel is scheduled to discuss his case Wednesday, the Oceania Football Confederation president said.

Blatter has promised an "in-depth investigation" into allegations that Temarii, from Tahiti, and Nigerian FIFA executive member Amos Adamu offered to sell their support for the Dec. 2 vote to decide which countries will host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022.

The United States qualified behind Russia and China, setting up a classic final for the women's team gold at the world gymnastics championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

With their major challengers already through on Saturday, the Americans were fully focused throughout and finished with 233.643 points, just behind Russia's 234.521 and China's 233.778.

Wednesday's team final will be the first meeting between Russian newcomer Aliya Mustafina and U.S. champion Rebecca Bross, the favorites for the individual all-around, which will be contested Friday.
