Jurek maintains lead at PBA Senior U.S. Open

Jack Jurek averaged a 230.8 in his six games on Tuesday to maintain the lead after 12 qualifying games of the PBA Senior U.S. Open at Suncoast Bowling Center.
Jurek, who lives outside Buffalo, N.Y., has recorded a pinfall total of 2,770 through the two days of competition. He sits 76 pins ahead of second-place Ty Dawson (2,694).
Mike Taylor of Las Vegas sits in third place (2,662), with Paul McCordic (2,629) and Robert Spaulding (2,618) rounding out the top five.
Former major league pitcher John Burkett (2,554) dropped from second place after Monday’s first-round of qualifying into 16th position.
Two-time Senior U.S. Open winners Amleto Monacelli of Venezuela and Tom Baker of King, N.C., both Hall of Famers, finished the second round in 10th and 15th, respectively. Should either player win the event, he would become the first three-time winner.
Senior U.S. Open defending champion and reigning PBA50 Player of the Year Hall of Famer Norm Duke finished the second round in 27th place.
The action continues today as all bowlers will again roll six more games with the top 48 players advancing to match play on Thursday and Friday.
