Aldo-McGregor fight at UFC 189 to proceed as planned, according to statement
A scheduled fight between Conor McGregor and UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will proceed as planned as the main event for UFC 189 at MGM Grand on July 11.
Probably.
Reports surfaced Tuesday indicating Aldo had suffered a broken rib while training and would likely be forced to pull out of the bout.
UFC officials released a statement on Wednesday evening, however, that after several doctors had concluded Aldo’s rib was not broken. He sustained a bone bruise and damage to the cartilage.
Aldo still intends to proceed with the fight as planned.
The organization isn’t taking any chances, though. In the event Aldo can’t enter the the cage on July 11, Chad Mendes will fight McGregor for an interim featherweight belt.
