Dana White, Conor McGregor to discuss next UFC fight over dinner

The wait for details on Ultimate Fighting Championship star Conor McGregor’s next fight appears to be coming to an end.

No, he won’t be boxing against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

UFC president Dana White said during an ESPN appearance on Wednesday that McGregor’s next fight in the organization could be booked as soon as this evening after White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta meet with the Irish superstar.

“Lorenzo and I are having dinner with Conor McGregor, so tonight at like 10, I’ll have a lot more answers on the Conor McGregor situation,” White said on SportsCenter. “We’re in a good place with Conor and we’re looking to make his next fight. We should have that done tonight.”

McGregor, who is currently in Los Angeles, was pulled from a scheduled rematch against Nate Diaz that had been announced for UFC 200 on July 9 at T-Mobile Arena when he failed to show up in Las Vegas for promotional responsibilities.

He and Mayweather have been teasing a boxing match that could almost certainly never happen due to contractual restraints.

White continues to insist McGregor will not be placed back on the UFC 200 card.

There is speculation McGregor will fight Diaz at UFC 202 in August. No date or venue have been announced for the event, though it could happen on Aug. 20. Las Vegas is one possible site.

Diaz handed McGregor, who still holds the featherweight title, his first UFC defeat when he submitted him in March.

UFC officials gave Diaz the option of taking a fight against a different opponent at UFC 200, but Diaz declined.
