Las Vegan rallies for UFC win

Las Vegas welterweight Martin Kampmann has had enough of the judges deciding his fate. After a scoring debacle Friday, Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White isn't a big fan of their work, either.

Kampmann, who lost two controversial decisions in the past 18 months and was on the verge of dropping another decision, secured a late guillotine choke and forced Thiago Alves to tap out with 48 seconds remaining in the main event of the UFC on FX 2 card in Sydney.

Also, Joseph Benavidez advanced to the final of the flyweight tournament by knocking out Yasuhiro Urushitani 11 seconds into the second round with a big right hand to the chin.

His opponent is yet to be determined after a scoring error in the other semifinal. Demetrious Johnson was announced as the winner by majority decision over Ian McCall, but the cards were calculated wrong and the fight was supposed to be a draw.

The UFC put in a "sudden victory" round in case of a draw in one of the two 125-pound tournament bouts, but it was too late by the time the error was caught.

"These things happen. Human errors happen," an agitated White said. "I don't even know what to say."

Johnson and McCall will have a rematch before a title bout can be scheduled.

In the main event, Kampmann found himself in trouble late in the first round and never could work his way inside against the powerful striker.

As Alves tried for an inexplicable takedown against the cage late in the fight, the Las Vegan clamped on the guillotine.

"I thought I had a chance to go for the submission, and I just squeezed it because I knew that was my window and I didn't want to miss it," Kampmann said.

Kampmann trailed 20-18 on two cards and 20-19 on the third after two rounds.

McCall nearly finished Johnson in the closing seconds, but the clock expired as McCall rained down punches.

Also, Constantinos Philippou scored a unanimous decision over Court McGee.
