McCall loses another opponent on eve of UFC return

It has happened again to Ian McCall.

The flyweight contender is once again left without an opponent after Ray Borg fell ill just two days before their scheduled fight and had to withdraw from Saturday’s UFC 203 event in Cleveland, Ohio.

Borg apologized to McCall in an Instagram post that accompanied a photo of him in a hospital bed.

“I would like to send a very sincere apology to all my family and friends who were hoping to see me fight,” Borg wrote. “Unfortunately it was out of my control and I fell very ill and was taken to the ER last night. I would also like to apologize to (McCall) for having to go without a fight 2 times in a row and also to the UFC for the inconvenience.”

The fight had been booked after Justin Scoggins, McCall’s opponent for UFC 201 in July, had to abandon his weight cut and withdraw from the fight less than 48 hours before that event.

Once again, it will be too late to find a replacement and McCall will be removed from the card.

“(Expletive) happens kids,” McCall posted on his Instagram page. “Just keep smiling. Thank you to the UFC for always taking care of me. I hope (Borg) is OK and gets better soon.”

McCall went on to issue a challenge to Neil Seery for the Nov. 19 card in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

A winner of two of his last three fights, McCall is coming off a unanimous decision loss to John Lineker in January 2015.

He suffered an injury and had to pull out of a fight in August 2015 and has now been stymied two consecutive efforts to make his return.
