Mojave wrestlers honored

Mojave proved to be the best wrestling team in the state for the second straight season, capturing the Class 4A title last month.

And the Rattlers were rewarded by area coaches, placing six athletes on the All-Southern Nevada team.

Jake Evans, who won the 130-pound title and went 34-4, and 215-pound champ Reggie Powers (30-2) led the way for Mojave. The other Rattlers on the team were Travis DeGroat (119), David Jordan (145), Trey McElhaney (189) and Dylan Berg (285).

State runner-up Cimarron-Memorial placed four wrestlers on the squad: Britain Longmire (112), Colbey Garrison (125), Nicholas Harris (135) and Aaron Garcia (160).

Other wrestlers making the All-Southern Nevada team were Bishop Gorman's Napleon Anciete (103), Steven Hernandez (140) and Johnny Field (152), and Bonanza's Daniel Wosik (171).

CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND -- Findlay Prep's boys basketball team advanced to the championship game of the National Prep School Championship tournament at Fordham University in New York with a 74-70 overtime win over Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep on Wednesday night.

Findlay blew a 17-point lead, allowing Notre Dame to force overtime.

Jacques Streeter led Findlay with 19 points. Curtis Dennis scored 17 points, Jorge Gutierrez had 12 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals, and UNLV-bound Brice Massamba had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Pilots.

Findlay (32-0) will play Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy at 4 p.m. today for the championship.
