IndyCar racer Wheldon to compete in Rio go-kart event

Dan Wheldon, winner of the Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar series championship in 2005, will compete today through Sunday in the SKUSA SuperNationals go-kart event at the Rio.
Wheldon and fellow IndyCar driver Raphael Matos will race in the premiere Super Pro division along with former national champion Matt Jaskol of Las Vegas.
■ DRAG RACING -- Three weeks ago, Brad Personett won an NHRA title in the Las Vegas Nationals, and he's back this weekend to win another coveted trophy at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's dragstrip.
The racer from Elkhart, Ind., who won the NHRA Pro Modified title Oct. 31, is among 400 entries racing today through Sunday in the Street Car Supernationals. He is competing in the 230 mph Pro Street category.
■ QUARTER MIDGETS -- About 400 racers ages 5 to 16 will compete Dec. 1 to 5 in the Silver State Winter Nationals Quarter Midget races at The Orleans. The event had been held for several years in Primm.
Quarter Midgets are open-wheel race cars powered by engines with up to four horsepower. They will race on an oval track about 1/20th of a mile that will be built outside The Orleans.

■ DAVIS MOVES UP -- Las Vegan Dusty Davis, 17, was moved up one spot to fifth in the Nov. 12 NASCAR K&N Pro Series stock-car race at Phoenix International Raceway after runner-up Johnny Borneman was disqualified Thursday for using an unapproved engine part. The ruling gave Davis, of Vision Aviation Racing, a top-five finish in his second Pro Series race.
The regional series is expected to race in June at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring.
