HIGH SIDE, LOW SIDE

The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Jeff Wolf and Ron Kantowski each week select five highlights (Winner’s Circle) and five lowlights (Backmarkers) from the previous weekend in motor sports.

WINNER'S CIRCLE
Wolf says...

1. Sam’s Town 300 crowd: Attendance might have been down about half from the 100,000 of recent years but those who were at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday are dedicated. 50 degrees, windy and a few sprinkles. I wouldn’t endure that if George Harrison and John Lennon were resurrected and the Beatles performed live in these conditions.

2. Kurt Busch’s emotions: Tearful, joyous memories of growing up at LVMS after winning the pole Friday for the Shelby American Cup race deserved reward on than getting crashed out by someone else.

  Kantowski says ...

1. Jimmie Come Lately: Not only did Jimmie Johnson do his usual Las Vegas victory burnout, he gave NASCAR an earful for asking drivers to play paintball to sell tickets, gave the other teams an earful for saying he was lucky, and gave the sport of stock car racing an earful for saying his dominance was not in its best interests. This is the guy despised for blandness?

2. The Swiss Miss: Simona De Silvestro of Switzerland finished ahead of fellow female driver Danica Patrick during an Indy Racing League test in Alabama last week. (The IRL? In Alabama?) But it doesn't count because nobody was there to offer her a magazine photo shoot or a NASCAR ride.
