Nevada fishing report, Nov. 5, 2015

LAKE MEAD — Game fish have been active. Fishing has been good from the shoreline near Echo Bay. Buzzbaits, crankbaits and flukes have been providing good action for largemouth bass. Stripers have been active as well, with good fishing near the Hemenway fishing pier.

LAKE MOHAVE — Coves have been the best spots to find stripers. There have been good days when just about every angler brought home fish. One group had three fish in the 8- to 10-pound range. With temperatures dropping, the fish are moving toward the shoreline rather open water, since it is cooling off. Big swimbaits and jigging spoons have been go-to baits.

LAUGHLIN — Fishing has slowed. Anglers will need to work their favorite spots. Stripers and catfish are moving around, so you might have to as well. One shore angler brought in 5-pound stripers while throwing top-water lures from shore. Try pencil poppers or a Sammy.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — Warmer weather over the weekend increased fishing activity. One angler at Floyd Lamb Park did well catching largemouth bass on spinning lures, but, with cooler temperatures on the way, the bass and bluegill bite will be slowing again.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Trout fishing was excellent across the management area last week. Moderate temperatures and calm days made for excellent conditions to catch fish with flies. A winter storm watch has been issued for the area later in the week. Expect high winds, cold temperatures and rain mixed with snow through the majority of the week. Please use caution while visiting the area.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Great weather over the weekend made for awesome fishing for those venturing out on the lake. Most were catching rainbows in the 12- to 15-inch range, but several nice tiger trout also were caught. Fly-fishers did well using olive or light brown Woolly Buggers, and spin-fishers found gold spinners to be productive. A few lucky anglers found the largemouth bass still biting. The upper loop of the campground has been closed for the season, but all other facilities remain open.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Rainbows in the 12- to 14-inch range are taking PowerBait in green, orange or rainbow colors or night crawlers. All campsites are open, but the water has been shut off to all but the first five sites of the main campground.

EVENTS — The Nevada Department of Wildlife will hold a free Family/Beginners Fishing Clinic at Floyd Lamb Park from 9 a.m. until noon on Nov. 21. Registration is required and can be taken care of by visiting www.ndow.org/Education/Angler_Ed/Classes/.
