No. 18 UNLV softball team tumbles to Stanford, Georgia

The 18th-ranked UNLV softball team dropped two games to ranked squads Saturday, losing to No. 12 Stanford 10-1 in five innings and to co-No. 18 Georgia 5-4 at the Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.
The Cardinal (14-0) scored its runs in the first three innings, capped by a Mandy Coon two-run homer.
Against Georgia, the Rebels (10-5-1) gave up a 2-0 lead, then rallied to tie the game at 4 in the top of the seventh on a Brittany Bolinger RBI double.
But in the bottom of the seventh, Melissa Wood led off with a homer to end the game.
• UNLV BASEBALL -- The Rebels lost to Central Michigan 3-2 at Wilson Stadium.
J.J. Sferra and Xavier Scruggs had back-to-back triples to open the first inning, and Braden Walker's sacrifice fly scored Scruggs to make the score 2-0. But the Rebels (1-1) were shut out from there.
• UNLV TENNIS -- The women's team lost to No. 14 Fresno State 6-1 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Adrien Hidvegi had the Rebels' point with a win at No. 6 singles.
The UNLV men's team beat UC Riverside 6-1 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, led by Elliot Wronski's 6-4, 6-4 win over Joe Cartledge at No. 1 singles.
• CSN SOFTBALL -- The College of Southern Nevada swept Colorado Northwestern Community College, winning 8-0 in six innings and 20-1 in four innings at the Russell Road Recreation Complex.
In the opener, Mandy Tapia (5-3) threw a no-hitter, striking out four and walking three.
In the second game, Allison Barr went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored, and Erin Piorkowski and Amy Eicher both went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
