Pennsylvania inmate files suit to get Steelers in playoffs

Pittsburgh Steelers fans were not happy when an officiating mistake led to the San Diego Chargers beating the Kansas City Chiefs, which eliminated Pittsburgh from the playoff picture. But one fan is taking action from a jail in Pennsylvania.

Deadspin is reporting that Daniel Spuck, who is serving a sentence at Mercer County Jail, filed a civil complaint asking NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to give Pittsburgh a proper shot at the playoffs.

The Chiefs lost to San Diego when referees didn’t call a penalty on the play when Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop missed a game-winning field goal. The Chargers — who had an illegal shift on the play — won in overtime, which earned San Diego the final AFC playoff spot over Pittsburgh.

In his Jan. 2 complaint, he asked the NFL to halt the playoffs before they started and either allow Succop to kick again, or have Pittsburgh play San Diego for the final playoff spot.

San Diego finished the season with a 9-7 record and are playing in the second round of the AFC playoffs this weekend. Pittsburgh ended the year with an 8-8 record.
