Kris Bryant billboard unveiled outside Wrigley Field

Kris Bryant won’t be at Wrigley Field when the Chicago Cubs open the season on Sunday night, but Adidas is making sure he won’t be forgotten.

As if his monstrous spring training numbers weren’t enough to keep Bryant on the minds of Cubs fans, the apparel company unveiled a billboard featuring the hitting phenom, right across the street from the famed Wrigley Field marquee.

The billboard includes the message, “Worth the wait.”

Adidas director of baseball Aaron Khan insists the billboard wasn’t purchased to take a shot at Cubs’ brass, who decided to start Bryant off in triple-A this season, despite the Bonanza High grad hitting .425 with 9 home runs in 14 spring training games.

Kahn told ESPN’s Darren Rovell that his team had long decided to buy a billboard and feature Bryant on it, though he admitted the text changed going into this week.

“We just wanted to make sure to tell the folks in Chicago that they have a great thing coming,” Kahn told ESPN.
