Southern Nevada sports radio expanding to another station

While the NHL still hasn’t decided whether to expand to Las Vegas, Lotus Broadcasting already has deemed the city worthy of sports expansion.

One of the largest privately owned Radio Station Groups in the country, Lotus recently changed the format at Las Vegas station KRLV-AM (1340) from Spanish talk to sports, joining sister sports stations KWWN (ESPN Radio’s 1100 AM, 100.9 FM) and KBAD-AM (920, The Game) to form the Las Vegas Sports Radio Network.

According to Julie Samuelson, program director for the newly formed network, KBAD will become an NBC Sports Radio affiliate May 4, and KRLV will become a Fox Sports Radio affiliate by July 1. (KMZQ-AM (670) is Fox Sports Radio’s current affiliate in Southern Nevada.)

“With the way sports radio is growing nationally, we wanted to expand it locally,” Samuelson said. “We’re very excited to offer our sports clients and our listeners these three national, powerhouse affiliates.

“It will be nice to have more real estate to run all of our sports stuff. To have the ability to carry local sports as well as national sports is really exciting for us.”

Two new local sports talk shows will start Monday following the end Friday of the afternoon “Gridlock” show that featured Mitch Moss, Seat Williams and Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Ed Graney, who were previously on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on KWWN.

Moss and Las Vegas native and former NFL player Mike Pritchard will fill the same time slot on KWWN with the “Mitch and Pritch” show.

Starting May 4, Williams and Graney will move over to KRLV, where “Seat and Ed” will air weekdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and serve as the flagship local show for the new sports station.

ESPN Radio still will feature local weekday shows “First Preview” with RJ Bell and Scott Spreitzer from 10 to 11 a.m.; the “Las Vegas Sportsline” with Review-Journal sports betting columnist Matt Youmans and Dave Cokin from 2 to 3 p.m.; and “Cofield &Company” with host Steve Cofield and regular guests Adam Hill of the Review-Journal and Taylor Bern of the Las Vegas Sun from 3 to 6 p.m.

KWWN also airs national ESPN Radio weekday shows “Mike &Mike” from 3 to 7 a.m. and “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” from 7 to 10 a.m.

KBAD still will feature local shows “Sportsbook Radio,” hosted by Brian Blessing, from noon to 1 p.m., and “Power Hour With Paul Howard” from 1 to 2 p.m.

KRLV features national Fox Sports Radio weekday shows “The Dan Patrick Show” from 6 to 9 a.m. and “The Rich Eisen Show” from 9 a.m. to noon. When it becomes a Fox Sports Radio affiliate, it also will air “Jay Mohr Sports” from noon to 2 p.m. and “JT The Brick” from 5 to 8 p.m.
