Stipe Miocic wins by knockout 35 seconds into UFC fight in Sao Paulo

Heavyweight Stipe Miocic needed just 35 seconds to knock out Fabio Maldonado in the first round of the main event of an Ultimate Fighting Championship card Saturday in Sao Paulo.

Maldonado, who moved up from light heavyweight to take the fight on short notice, was rocked by a left hand and dropped with a right moments later. Miocic finished with a series of short right hands on the ground.

It marked the first time the organization had held two events on the same day.

Earlier Saturday, Gegard Mousasi submitted Mark Munoz in the first round of a middleweight bout in Berlin. Middleweight C.B. Dollaway won a unanimous decision over Francis Camont on the card.

Also on the card in Brazil, Warlley Alves and Antonio Carlos Jr. each won to claim Season 3 titles on the Brazilian version of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Carlos took the heavyweight title with a unanimous decision over Vitor Miranda, and Alves won the middleweight title with a third-round technical submission of Marcio Alexandre Jr. by guillotine choke.

Welterweight Demian Maia snapped the first two-fight losing streak of his career with a workmanlike unanimous decision over Alexander Yakovlev.
