UNLV loses second chance at bowl game; Twitter loses its collective head
November 9, 2013 - 10:13 pm
UNLV lost its second chance at bowl eligibility Saturday night, in the process allowing Utah State University to become bowl eligibile.
Twitter wasn’t happy about it.
The game was a nail biter until the final seconds, with the teams keeping within a score of one another despite USU being a 15-point favorite.
A 10-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Herring to Marcus Sullivan gave UNLV a 7-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Two USU touchdowns in the second quarter were met by a touchdown and field goal by UNLV, and fans started to get a little excited.
OK, maybe really excited.
Fans entered the third quarter feeling hopeful, but maybe a little wary.
“Proud of this team. My Rebels. They are bringin it tonight. #NoQuitInEm #UNLV,” tweeted @depuppy3.
“UNLV is like, winning football games these days. It’s weird,” tweeted @paulkman.
UNLV was unable to keep USU from scoring in the third quarter, and entered the fourth quarter down 21-17.
“Typical UNLV football! I shouldn’t get my hopes up but I always do!” tweeted @jhurzel.
The fourth quarter saw matching touchdowns and UNLV fans starting to lose their cool — especially when the Rebels squandered their chance to win with incomplete passes in the final seconds of the game.
“That was the worst, UNLV,” tweeted @khaal53.
“Way to choke, unlv” tweeted @chole_world.
And perhaps the most depressing sentiment of them all:
“UNLV doing UNLV things,” tweeted @TrueBlueLowry21.
The Rebels have two more chances to become bowl eligible: Against Air Force on Nov. 21 and San Diego State on Nov. 30.
