Marvin Menzies completes UNLV coaching staff

New UNLV basketball coach Marvin Menzies completed his staff Thursday, hiring two veterans who have experienced their share of success.

Menzies hired Rob Jeter, who most recently coached Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Long Beach State assistant Eric Brown. They join Andre LaFleur, who already was on staff after leaving Providence.

“I’m very excited to have three assistant coaches that all have head-coaching qualities,” Menzies said in a text. “Obviously, that conglomeration of talent will bode well for us going forward.”

Jeter coached Milwaukee the past 11 years, going 20-13 last season. He and athletic director Amanda Braun had a rocky relationship, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, leading to Jeter’s firing after the season.

Jeter went 185-170 at Milwaukee, one victory short of the school record. He won at least 20 games five times and twice made the NCAA Tournament.

Before becoming a head coach, Jeter was an assistant for 11 seasons, including under Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan from 2001 to 2005.

“Thank you all for the well wishes and support,” Jeter tweeted. “Excited to jothat in @MarvinMenzies and Staff at UNLV!”

Brown spent the past nine seasons as an assistant at Long Beach State, overseeing the offense and recruiting. The 49ers won the Big West Conference regular-season championship three times, and they made the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Brown, known as a top-notch recruiter, also coached at Iowa State, Southern California and Cal State Northridge.
