CLAYTON’S BALL SECURITY SETS MARK
UNLV has not turned the ball over this season. That makes the Rebels the only team in the nation to have played three games without committing a turnover.
They should be tested on that front Saturday night.
Iowa State leads the nation in takeaways with 12 in their three games.
The man most responsible for the lack of turnovers by the Rebels this season is sophomore quarterback Omar Clayton.
According the UNLV sports information department, Clayton has broken a school record by going 118 pass attempts without throwing an interception.
He has thrown 90 passes this season without a pick and did not throw one in his last 28 attempts last season.
Clayton broke the previous mark of 109 passes without an interception, set by Jared Brown in 1994.
Clayton's streak is currently the fourth longest in the nation, behind only Thad Lewis of Duke (206), Kinsmon Lancaster of Louisiana-Monroe (162) and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow of Florida (130).
By contrast, Iowa State's platoon of sophomore quarterbacks combined for three interceptions last week alone against Iowa.
