Feagai gets to try different position

UNLV is giving junior Ramsey Feagai about a two-week trial at defensive tackle, moving him over there from backup offensive guard.

"Then we're going to re-evaluate it and see where we are," coach Mike Sanford said. "We need depth on both sides of the ball, but specifically in the defensive line. We want to put him in the best place where he can be successful, where he can help our football team also."

Feagai, who is working behind senior Martin Tevaseu at tackle, said he was surprised by the move but was making a smooth transition.

"I'm picking up things pretty easily," Feagai said.

STANDING OUT

Sanford said junior defensive end B.J. Bell and freshman cornerback Courtney Bridget were especially impressive at tonight's practice among the newcomers. Bell is competing at the No. 2 end spot.

"Some of that depends on the personnel group, too," Sanford said. "We're going to look at that. He might be a starter in some personnel group eventually.

"He's such a good pass rusher."

Bridget is just outside the mix of five players competing for the two cornerback positions, but he isn't far behind.

"He would be right there," Sanford said.

LOOKING AHEAD

The entire team practices for the first time at 6 p.m. Sunday at Rebel Park. It goes into pads for the first time at 8:45 a.m. Monday. Barring any major news, the next online practice update will be Monday.
