UNLV men’s swimming grabs lead at Mountain Pacific meet

The UNLV men’s swimming and diving team swept two relays in conference-record times to take the lead on the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Wednesday in Monterey Park, Calif.

UNLV opened by winning the 200-yard medley relay (Henrique Machado, David Szele, Cody Roberts, Dillon Virva) in 1 minute, 25.63 seconds. The Rebels then edged Wyoming by less than a tenth of a second in the 800 freestyle relay, winning in 6:28.53 (Samuel Lameynardie, Tom Paco-Pedroni, Balint Batka and Giacomo Gremizzi).

UNLV scored 80 points, with Wyoming second at 66.

■ WOMEN’S SWIMMING — At San Antonio, UNLV women’s swimming and diving team was in second after the first day of the Mountain West Championships in San Antonio. UNLV scored 84 points, tied with New Mexico, behind San Diego State’s 93.

The Rebels took second in the 200-yard medley relay (Carmen Robb, Nakayla Chan, Katelyne Herrington, Rachel Dixon) in a school-record 1 minute, 38.48 seconds and second in the 800 freestyle relay (Jessica Heim, Julia Fehervari, Brittany Ozar, Jessica Marsh). Diver Maraea Skeen took seventh on the 1-meter board.

■ MEN’S GOLF — At Kahuku, Hawaii, UNLV shot 15-over 303 and was 10th after the first round of the 16-team John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Kahuku, Hawaii. Coronado High product AJ McInerney led UNLV with a 73, tied for 13th individually.

California was in first at 4-under 284, paced by individual leader Joel Stalter’s 5-under 67.
