UNLV roundup: Men’s golf team sixth, women tied for fifth

Freshman Jack Trent shot a 4-under-par 136 to help put the UNLV men’s golf team in sixth place after two rounds of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

The Rebels are at 2-over 562, two strokes behind fifth-place Auburn in the 12-team field. No. 3-ranked Alabama paces the field at 16-under 544, and No. 15 Baylor is two strokes back.

Trent, who had seven birdies, is tied for seventh in the 60-player field. Senior Shintaro Ban had eight birdies en route to a 3-over 137 and is tied for ninth.

Mason Overstreet of Arkansas paces the field at 10-under 130.

Also for UNLV, junior Harry Hall is tied for 31st at 143, followed by sophomore Justin Kim (146, tied for 40th) and freshman J.J. Gresco (150, 56th).

No. 27 Brigham Young is third in the team standings at 9-under 551, and No. 22 Arkansas is fourth at 555.

WOMEN’S GOLF

At Austin, Texas, freshman Polly Mack is tied for 21st at 2-over 146, helping put the Rebels in a tie for fifth place at 14-over 590 through two rounds of the 15-team Betsy Rawls Invitational.

Senior MacKenzie Raim is tied for 32nd at 4-over 148, 11 strokes off the pace set by Clemson’s Alice Hewson in the 81-player field. No. 19 Texas is the lone team under par, at 6-under 568.

No. 3 Arizona State is second at 5-over 581, No. 25 Clemson third at 584 and Miami fourth at 586. UNLV is tied with Houston.

Also for the Rebels, sophomore Nastasia Kossacky and freshman Cathy Liu are tied for 36th at 5-over 149, and junior Shannon Oh is tied for 53rd at 151.

MEN’S SOCCER

Senior forward Danny Musovski was named the Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week for the second time in the past three weeks after notching his second hat trick in a three-match span.

The Liberty High School product has garnered the weekly honor a program-record five times.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Sophomore forward Michaela Morris, a Coronado High School product, was named Mountain West offensive player of the week after scoring a goal in each of the Rebels’ two wins.
