UNLV’s Josifoska wins title in regional tennis tournament

UNLV women's tennis player Aleksandra Josifoska, seeded second, won the singles title Sunday in the USTA/ITA Division I Mountain Regional Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Josifoska beat Wyoming's Veronica Popovici 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals, then won 6-4, 6-3 in the final over Utah's Sarah Pham, who beat UNLV's Lucia Batta - the top seed - in the other semifinal, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6.

Josifoska earned a spot in the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships next month in New York.

■ WOMEN'S SOCCER - UNLV got two second-half goals to beat New Mexico 2-0 at Johann Memorial Field, ending the Lobos' 17-game Mountain West Conference unbeaten streak.

Macy Jo Harrison scored in the 57th minute, Jenn Wolfe scored in the 62nd minute, and goalkeeper Kylie Wassell had four saves for the Rebels (10-3-2, 2-1-1 MWC).

■ MEN'S SOCCER - At San Jose, Calif., UNLV rallied from a 2-0 second-half deficit to beat San Jose State, 3-2. Jose Mendoza pulled the Rebels (5-9-1, 3-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) within 2-1 in the 65th minute, Salvador Bernal scored in the 79th, and Eddie Vega converted the game winner in the 88th.

■ VOLLEYBALL - UNLV lost a tight match to Colorado State at Cox Pavilion, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23. Sekola Falemaka led the Rebels (13-7, 5-2 Mountain West) with 16 kills, and Kinsey Caldwell had 36 assists.
