REBELS TAKE THE LEAD

Frank Summers took a swing pass from Mike Clausen 4 yards into the end zone on a fourth-down play to give UNLV a 20-17 lead as the third quarter came to an end.

Clausen is 15-for-31 passing for 182 yards and two scores in his first start.

New Mexico had extended its lead to four with a field goal on its first drive of the second half, but the Rebels responded with a 10-play drive to take the lead.

INDECISION

Mike Sanford could not decide if he wanted to go for it on fourth-and-3 at the New Mexico 4-yard line midway through the third quarter.

He waited too long to decide and had to call a timeout.

Eventually, the Rebels did go for it and scored a touchdown on the play, but the wasted timeout could come back to haunt Sanford later in the game.

PAYNE OUT OF PADS

Phillip Payne, who left the game after taking a big hit in the second quarter, returned to the sideline in the third quarter without his shoulder pads.

The freshman obviously will not return to the game.

Safety Lorenzo Bursey Jr. and linebacker Ronnie Paulo also are not expected to return to the contest.

INFLATED NUMBER STILL NOT VERY HIGH

The announced crowd at tonight’s game was 13,154. The actual amount of people in attendance was nowhere near that many.

Still, the announced figure was the lowest for a UNLV home game since 11,594 were here to see UNLV beat San Diego State 44-42 in 1996.

WOLFE SETS MARK

Ryan Wolfe is in the midst of his ninth career 100-yard game.

That is the most 100-yard receiving games of any player in school history.

Wolfe also became UNLV’s No. 2 all-time leader in receptions with his fourth catch of the night. He trails only teammate Casey Flair on the all-time list.

FORMER LOBO FINDS A BRIDE

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Hank Baskett announced this week that he was engaged to Kendra Wilkinson.

Wilkinson is one of the stars of “The Girls Next Door” and was one of Hugh Hefner’s three live-in “girlfriends.”

It is not yet known whether Wilkinson will start cheering for the Eagles.

She is a lifelong San Diego Chargers fan.
