UNLV baseball coach Tim Chambers is taking an indefinite medical leave of absence because of an ongoing back ailment that will require him to undergo another back surgery, UNLV Athletic Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Thursday.
Chambers, who was sidelined for 33 games last season because of the ailment, has had a history of back issues and underwent surgery following the 2012 season and twice during the 2015 season.
Associate coach Stan Stolte will serve as the acting head coach in Chambers’ absence.
In five seasons at the helm of the Rebels, Chambers has compiled a 157-132 record. He guided UNLV to an NCAA regional in 2014, its first trip to the postseason in nine years, en route to being named MW Coach of the Year.
