Final at Allen Fieldhouse: Kansas 76, UNLV 61

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Frank Mason III scored 18 points as 13th-ranked Kansas pulled away late for a 76-61 victory over UNLV at Allen Fieldhouse.

Perry Ellis and Wayne Selden Jr. each scored 16 for the Jayhawks (11-2). Kelly Oubre Jr., a freshman from Findlay Prep, had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Cody Doolin and Chris Wood finished with 12 points apiece as the Rebels (9-5) wrapped up nonconference play.

The Jayhawks opened the second half with a 7-0 run, wiping out a 33-29 halftime deficit in less than two minutes. But each time Kansas threatened to pull away, the Rebels responded.

Wood made back-to-back 3s to tie the score at 49, and Doolin’s driving layup put UNLV up 51-49 with 11:35 remaining. Mason made a 3 and a layup as Kansas countered with nine straight points. Jelan Kendrick’s layup stopped that run, but the Rebels finally unraveled and fell behind 63-53 with 6:42 to go.

Selden made a deep 3 and added two free throws as the Jayhawks, who shot 60 percent from the field in the second half, busted loose for a 70-57 lead with 4:34 left.
