Lady Rebels rip Columbia, end skid

The UNLV women's basketball team snapped a five-game slide Wednesday night by routing Columbia 93-46 at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu.

The Lady Rebels (6-7) had an 11-0 run to erase a 5-2 deficit, and they were never again threatened, hitting 9 of 13 3-pointers to take a 54-22 halftime lead. UNLV finished 12-for-22 from long range and hit 29 of 57 shots overall (50.9 percent) while also going 23-for-29 at the free-throw line.

Kelli Thompson paced the Lady Rebels with 22 points, hitting 6 of 9 from 3-point range. Jamie Smith had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Markiell Styles had 11 points and seven rebounds. Sandrine Nzeukou and India Chaney added 10 points apiece.

UNLV outrebounded Columbia (0-10) 51-31 and held the Lions to 23.7 percent shooting (14-for-59). The Lady Rebels wrap up the tournament against Hawaii at 9 tonight.
