Maine’s long-range shooting sends Lady Rebels to loss in tournament

The UNLV women’s basketball team succumbed to a 3-point barrage from Maine, losing 74-67 at the Subway Classic on Saturday in Minneapolis.

The Black Bears hit 11 of 21 3-pointers (52.4 percent), with Liz Wood going 4 of 5 from long range, and Maine shot 41.9 percent overall, while the Lady Rebels shot 28.8 percent overall and 13.6 percent on 3-pointers (3 of 22). UNLV struggled the most in the first half, going 7-for-36 (19.4 percent) to negate its huge rebounding edge of 33-19, including 18-6 in offensive boards.

Kelli Thompson paced the Lady Rebels (1-2) with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Alana Cesarz had 18 points and 10 boards.

The Lady Rebels will play Ohio in today’s consolation game. Maine (1-3) will face host Minnesota.
