Missouri whips Lady Rebels in Hawaii tournament

The UNLV women’s basketball team shot only 31 percent from the field in a 79-60 loss to Missouri on Friday night in the Rainbow Wahine Classic at Honolulu.

Senior Danielle Miller scored 23 points to lead the Lady Rebels (2-1), who trailed 48-24 at halftime. Miller, who also had six steals, has scored more than 20 points in all three games.

UNLV hit only 21 of 66 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 25 on 3-pointers, and 14 of 25 from the free-throw line. The Lady Rebels were outrebounded 55-34.

“After the first five minutes we settled down, and the second half was much better,” UNLV coach Kathy Oliver said. “We were more aggressive, our post players battled, especially Aley Rohde and Jazmyne Bartee. While we won the second half, the reality is we need to make our easy shots and our free throws to beat a team like Missouri.”

UNLV will meet host Hawaii at 9 p.m. PDT Sunday before returning to Las Vegas.
