UC Riverside surges past Lady Rebels
The UNLV women's basketball team couldn't weather a 14-4 second-half surge by UC Riverside and lost to the Highlanders 82-66 on Saturday at Riverside, Calif.
UNLV (4-9) was within 51-44 before UC Riverside (7-4) made two 3-pointers to trigger its clinching run. The Highlanders pulled ahead 65-48, and UNLV got no closer than 14 thereafter.
UNLV was on the short end of several runs. The Lady Rebels led only twice, 2-0 and 4-2. Runs of 10-1 and 10-3 helped UC Riverside gain a 37-27 halftime lead.
Alana Cesarz led UNLV with 21 points and eight rebounds, and Kelli Thompson had 19 points to move into 10th on the Lady Rebels' career scoring list (1,498).
