UNLV’s Patrick McCaw earns MW Player of the Week honors

Patrick McCaw has seized the role as UNLV's go-to guy, and the sophomore guard's recent scoring surge helped him get voted Mountain West Player of the Week.

McCaw averaged 20.8 points to lead the Rebels to a 3-1 record last week. In the four games, he also averaged 5.0 points and 3.8 steals while shooting 41.9 percent (13 of 31) from 3-point range.

McCaw scored 20 points in UNLV's 72-69 victory over then-No. 13 Indiana in the Maui Invitational fifth-place game on Wednesday. He opened the tournament with a 20-point effort in a loss to UCLA and followed by scoring a career-high 25 points in a victory over Chaminade.

As a freshman, McCaw averaged 9.6 points in 32 games, and he entered this season as the Rebels' top returning scorer.

UNLV (6-1) faces Oregon, which is 5-0 and was ranked No. 21 in last week's AP poll, in the MGM Grand Showcase at 8 p.m. Friday in a game to be televised by ESPN2.
