UNLV FOOTBALL CAMP: Day 2

After a first day that saw the newcomers and veterans practice separately, UNLV's fall football camp entered day two broken down into the familiar scarlet and gray practice squads.
The scarlet team, which features most of the familiar faces, went in the morning session on Tuesday. Once again, the players were in helmets only for the practice session as they won't put full pads on until Friday.
The first full team practice will come Thursday morning.
Tuesday morning, the team rotated through several drills.
Among the highlights, was an athletic interception by Lafayette Fletcher. It was the second straight day that the junior cornerback pulled down a pick on an acrobatic play.
Monday, he did so in a one-on-one drill. Tuesday's came in seven-on-sevens.
"I just dropped into my zone. They'd been trying to get that seam with Rodelin (Anthony) all day and I just read that one," Fletcher said of his pick.
Speaking of Anthony, he was involved in the play of the day during an 11-on-11 drill. He got behind the secondary and hauled in a deep pass down the left sideline from Omar Clayton. The ball was perfectly thrown.
As for Fletcher, he is among the happiest players on the team that Travis Dixon has joined the defensive backfield.
"He got a pick yesterday," Fletcher beamed. "He's got good feet and he's smart and fast, so he'll help. He's one of my best friends on the team, too, so we are going to be able to help each other out."

HALES LEAVES EARLY

Defensive tackle Jacob Hales trotted off the practice field about 10 minutes before his teammates, but there was no problem.
He just had to make it to a presentation.
Hales has spent the last part of the summer session at UNLV teaching English as a Second Language at Petersen Elementary School.
He had to do a presentation on his work at 1:30 Tuesday, which he said would complete his UNLV coursework.
Hales is a senior from Las Vegas High School.
