Juco defensive back Robert Jackson commits to UNLV

Junior college defensive back Robert Jackson will visit UNLV this weekend, but he decided to choose the Rebels sight unseen.

He committed to play football at UNLV on Tuesday, giving the Rebels 13 commitments for their current class.

"I liked the coaching staff," said Jackson, who played at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif. "Everybody's been cool to me."

Jackson (6 feet 3 inches, 210 pounds) played safety in junior college, but said he was recruited to UNLV as a cornerback. He plans to sign this month, giving him the chance to enroll in January and go through spring practices.

"It means a lot," Jackson said. "I can get going with the program and learn the football system."

He said Fresno State, New Mexico and Texas State had talked with him, but UNLV was the first to offer a scholarship.

The other schools "were getting to it," Jackson said, "but UNLV beat them to the punch."
