Defensive tackle Salanoa-Alo Wily was set to stay home and play football for Hawaii. But just because he had committed to the Rainbow Warriors didn’t mean he would sign with them. Young minds change often during the recruiting process.
UNLV’s season opener at Northern Illinois on Sept. 5 will be televised by CBS Sports Network, and will be at 4:30 p.m. PDT. It is the first game in the coach Tony Sanchez era.
Blake Decker had a very solid game, completing 29 of 40 passes for 332 yards and a score. He did throw an interception and probably saw two more potential picks dropped by Fresno State defenders, but those plays are wiped away by the victory.
UNLV defeated Fresno State in overtime by a score of 30-27. It is the Rebels’ first win over the Bulldogs since 1984.
Last Saturday we played Northern Colorado at home and had a really good opening series on both sides. We played a little rattled from there, but I have to say that the crowd was great and we were excited to see everyone out there supporting us.
Drew Hare’s performance at Northwestern earned him the starting quarterback job for Northern Illinois. Now the Rebels need to prevent a repeat performance.

UNLV plays its spring football game tonight, knowing more about its team. The Rebels, though, still have unanswered questions heading into the summer.
The NCAA turned down UNLV’s appeal over a low Academic Progress Rate score. UNLV will not be allowed to participate in a bowl next season.
UNLV is having its best football season in 13 years, but the Rebels won’t have much to show in All-Mountain West honors.
If a mirror is in the football coaching offices at UNLV, and I have to believe there is given the egos of men who choose such a profession, those paid to instruct the Rebels should spend this day looking into it.
First-year defensive coordinator Tim Hauck said before the season that UNLV would take chances on that side of the football. He has backed up his words with actions.
