Three-star linebacker from California commits to UNLV

UNLV picked up its highest-rated football recruit less than a week from signing day when linebacker D.J. Moffitt committed to the Rebels.

Moffitt, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall and 205 pounds, played for De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. He is rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com and Rivals.com. Scout also ranks him the nation's No. 51 outside linebacker.

Commitments are nonbinding. Signing day is Wednesday.

Moffitt attracted lots of interest, reportedly receiving scholarship offers from UNR, Arizona, Utah, Washington State, Colorado State, Colorado and Houston. He said other schools pressured him to commit early, and he wanted to be sure of his decision.

"There was some interest with those schools, but it didn't work out with them because of some communication issues," Moffitt said Friday. "I think they wanted me to commit a little earlier. Where I'm going, I'm happy with it."

He said he was particularly impressed with UNLV's business school and wants to major in business. Moffitt also said he enjoyed his visit two weeks ago.

"I knew UNLV was my No. 1," he said.
