UNLV ready for conference home opener

The Rebels are set to host nemesis San Diego State at the Thomas & Mack Center tonight in their first Mountain West Conference home game.

The most difficult part of the league slate is over and UNLV earned a satisfying sweep on the two-game stretch between Provo and Albuquerque.

This could be a challenging game tonight, but a win would mean the Rebels could be looking at a nice run through the rest of the first half of the conference schedule.

San Diego State has been a thorn in UNLV’s side for the last few years. The Rebels traditionally have trouble matching up with the ultra-athletic Aztecs.

UNLV dropped all three games against San Diego State last season, including two in this building.

Things might be different this year. The Aztecs aren’t nearly as experienced as they were last season and UNLV has added quite a bit of athleticism.

Billy White update

One of the San Diego State assistant coaches told me before the game that Billy White was going to try to play tonight.

He was unsure how much action the star forward would see, but White was warming up with the team during warmups.

White didn’t even make the trip to Laramie with the team to play Wyoming, a game the Aztecs led most of the way, but lost.

Welcome back

This is just the third time the Rebels have played at the Thomas & Mack Center in nearly two months.

Fortunately, the fans did not forget how to find the place.

The arena is packed and very loud tonight.

That’s what winning for a program. Welcome to the bandwagon, people.
