Wade scores 28, lifts Aztecs past league-leading Cougars

SAN DIEGO -- Lorrenzo Wade scored a career-high 28 points Saturday night as San Diego State snapped Brigham Young's nine-game winning streak with a 69-65 victory.

Wade, a Cheyenne High School graduate, carried the Aztecs (18-9, 8-5 Mountain West Conference) by scoring 15 of his points in the second half. After BYU led nearly the entire second half, Wade put San Diego State ahead 60-59 with a short jumper at the 4:55 mark.

Lee Cummard gave BYU the lead back with a basket before freshman D.J. Gay hit a 3-pointer with 4:04 left to put San Diego State ahead to stay.

Cummard led the Cougars (21-6, 10-2) with 20 points. Jonathan Tavernari, a Bishop Gorman High product, scored 12.

New Mexico 72, Utah 71 -- At Salt Lake City, J.R. Giddens scored 19 points, including one of three straight 3-pointers down the stretch, as the Lobos pulled ahead and held off the Utes.

New Mexico (22-6, 0-6) snapped an 18-game losing streak to Utah (15-10, 6-6) at the Hunstman Center, dating to 1989.

Air Force 61, Colorado State 59 -- At Fort Collins, Colo., Anwar Johnson and Andrew Henke scored 14 points each as the Falcons dealt the Rams their 13th consecutive loss.

Johnson sealed the win with two free throws in the last 13 seconds for Air Force (14-12, 6-7), which also beat Colorado State (6-20, 0-12) for the 12th consecutive time in the regular season.

Marcus Walker scored 18 points for Colorado State.
