White Pine defeats The Meadows, claims Division III Southern League title

Ashlyn Huntington had 10 kills Saturday to lead White Pine to a 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 victory over host The Meadows in the Division III Southern League title match.

The Bobcats improved their win streak to 18 matches and captured their first state tournament berth in 10 years.

“I’ve envisioned this very day. I can’t believe we have finally accomplished it,” White Pine coach Kenna Almberg said. “I told them in order to be champions, you have to play like champions.”

Dani Otter and Brooke Brennan each had 16 kills for the Mustangs, who also advance to this week’s state tournament in Reno. The Meadows claimed that state tournament slot with a 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 victory over Lincoln County earlier Saturday.

Otter had 24 kills, and Missy Siegel had 29 assists and 15 digs. Brooke Brennan added nine kills and 18 digs for the Mustangs.

Huntington had 22 digs and 15 kills as White Pine advanced to the title match with a 22-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 victory over Calvary Chapel.

Mariah Martin led the Lions with 11 assists.
