R-J’S HILL, SCHOEN WAGER FANTASY BANKROLLS ON WORLD CUP
Las Vegas Review-Journal sports writers Adam Hill and David Schoen have been given $5,000 fantasy bankrolls to bet during the World Cup on either sides, totals or props. Below are their bets for today, with an explanation of their picks:
ADAM HILL, REVIEW-JOURNAL
Bankroll: $6,110
Sunday: Won $450
Today: Betting $240
Bet 1: $240 on France (-1, minus-120) over Nigeria
Comment: There is always a question going into major tournaments about whether “Good France” or “Bad France” will show up. It has certainly appeared as if the former is competing in Brazil. Karim Benzema has led a potent attack that shows little sign of slowing down. France also has the edge of having rested several key players in the final group stage match, while Nigeria comes in banged up.
DAVID SCHOEN, REVIEW-JOURNAL
Bankroll: $4,135
Sunday: Won $220
Today: Betting $360
Bet 1: $360 on France (-1, minus-120) over Nigeria
Comment: It was much more fun following Les Bleus when the players were revolting against the former coach and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri was acting like a total buffoon. France gets midfielder Yohan Cabaye back from suspension and, as long as it’s not looking ahead to a potential quarterfinal showdown with Germany, should get past the Super Eagles, who were the latest African team to deal with the distraction of unpaid player bonuses.
