Josh Sharman saved his best for the end, pitching out of jams in the fifth and sixth innings, as the Diamondbacks defeated visiting Palo Verde 5-3 in a battle of the area’s top-ranked teams.
The Bulldogs played six games in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament, five of them decided by one run, including a 7-6 win over Arbor View in Saturday’s championship game at Desert Oasis.

Clark defeated Bishop Manogue 52-34 and Bishop Gorman rolled past Arbor View 81-52 on Friday in the Class 4A boys state basketball semifinals at Orleans Arena.
Jalen Hill had 19 points and seven rebounds as Clark rolled to a 55-40 win over Desert Pines in the Class 4A boys state basketball quarterfinals. Arbor View defeated Spanish Springs 72-56 in the other quarterfinal.
Arbor View was scheduled to host Wednesday’s games long before the Aggies qualified for their first state tournament. But the players aren’t downplaying the importance of home-court advantage.
Mwani Wilkinson scored all 18 of his points in the second half, including Gorman’s first 12 points of the fourth quarter, as the Gaels defeated the Jaguars 52-42 in the Southern Nevada boys basketball championship game.

Noah Taitz drilled a 3-pointer with about three seconds to play to give the Gaels a 70-67 win over Coronado in the Class 4A Desert Region boys basketball semifinals at Foothill.
Leland Wallace only made three baskets on Friday night, but the Centennial senior still made his presence felt.
