9-year-old arrested for missing court over stolen gum

A prosecutor in Post Falls, Idaho, has issued an arrest warrant for a 9-year-old boy. The charge? Failing to appear in court for stealing a pack of gum.
KHQ-TV reports the warrant was issued for a “failure to appear” when the child twice missed court dates. Relatives say they had no way to get him to the courthouse.
Police Chief Scott Haug says it’s the first time he’s seen an arrest warrant for someone that young. Haug said had they known about the family’s transportation issue before the court date, the police would have provided some assistance.
The child is in the Juvenile Detention Center in Post Falls until he goes before a judge.
