A day of tricks, treats and tips at Mountain’s Edge
October 11, 2014 - 8:10 am
Learn about helping animals in need and proper pet care while enjoying the day with furry family members at the annual Family, Fur &Fun Festival on Oct. 18 at Exploration Park at the Mountain’s Edge master-planned community.
The free event, now in its eighth year, will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is designed to raise awareness about the importance of adopting animals in shelters, fostering animals until they can be adopted, volunteering, and spaying and neutering.
“Every year, more pets are surrendered to local animal shelters and rescue groups than there is room,” festival organizer Donna Stidham said. “Fostering an animal allows shelters to take in more animals in need while giving the fostered animals a loving home environment to flourish until they’re adopted. The unconditional love these animals give is priceless.”
Festival booths will include cat and dog adoption areas, dog agility demonstrations, new-shelter-animal naming and free pet nail trimming. Activities will include raffles, a pet Halloween costume contest and a rugby clinic by the Las Vegas Rugby Academy, sponsored by USA Sevens Rugby. The event also features refreshments and information to keep pets healthy, incorporate them into the family, include them in planning in case of home fire or flood, and keep them safe during Halloween.
Drs. Jason and Jamie Sulliban of Aloha Animal Hospital and their staff will provide information about proper pet care for all stages of life and answer questions about spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm and intestinal parasites, microchipping, dental health, weight control, and general pet care including nutrition, supplements and dental products. NutriSource Pet Foods will cover proper pet nutrition and keeping pets from getting overweight.
The 80-acre Exploration Park is at 9700 S. Buffalo Drive, just south of the Buffalo and Blue Diamond Road intersection past the Mountain’s Edge entrance.
