Angle reveals naive press view
If the Fox New Channel’s Carl Cameron is being treated for shock following his interview with Republican Senate hopeful Sharron Angle, I wouldn’t be surprised.
In an exchange now being widely circulated by even the conservative end of the media, Angle briefly discussed her press strategy and revealed something about her understanding of the process.
Angle: “We needed to have the press be our friend.”
Cameron: “Wait a minute. Hold on a second. To be your friend…?”
Angle: “Well, truly–”
Cameron: “That sounds naive.”
Angle: “Well, no. We wanted them to ask the questions we want to answer so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported.”
Cameron followed with a little nervous laughter. He managed to keep his jaw from hitting the floor. For that he should receive an Emmy nomination.
I’m not sure where this falls on the growing list of Angle head-scratching comments, but it’s noteworthy, to say the least.
The National Review even raised its eyebrows at Angle’s remarks.
Meanwhile, Angle is attempting to make light of her recent attempts to avoid contact with reporters. She joked about it during a speech Monday before a Republican Men's Club.
