Aria opens at CityCenter; Harmon Hotel, not so much

MGM Mirage officials have plenty to sing about with tonight’s grand opening of the 4004-room Aria resort, which is the centerpiece of the $8.5 billion CityCenter project.

There will be nearly 500 journalists from around the world on hand to listen to every note of praise for the project, which is being touted as an economic lifeline for Las Vegas and a new and unique addition to the Strip experience.

As I understand it, there won’t be any ribbons cut tonight at the Harmon Hotel, which remains unoccupied and unfinished after enormous construction defects.

As the Review-Journal previously reported, “(CityCenter general contractor) Perini is expected to complete the Harmon tower to its new 26-floor height and its exterior. The building will be lighted and appear finished but won't be occupied.”

What will become of the Harmon Hotel?
