AROUND TOWN: Give a basket to help the E Bunny
February 27, 2009 - 9:15 am
The E Bunny is on a bunny mission -- that's right, she's out to bring happiness to needy children this Easter (hence, the "E" Bunny). But she needs help. She needs donations from all parts of town to have enough to pass out.
Summerlin resident Barbara Kenig, shown right, and her volunteers strive to make Easter a little happier for homeless and disadvantaged children. The E Bunny program, which Kenig established 19 years ago, delivers free Easter baskets to the needy. To pull it off each year, she seeks donations of pre-packaged Easter baskets. The effort, she stressed, does not need monetary donations, rather, pre-packaged Easter baskets which can be bought at retail stores for about $10: One basket, one child.
Donations are being collected through March. Baskets can include candy, small stuffed animals or other appropriate items. Easter, Kenig said, is for children no matter what their family’s religion. The private, charitable program has grown from delivering 25 baskets its first year to more than 1,300 last year.
When I spoke to her earlier today, she was severely lacking in donations.
