Berkley: Don’t stiff Clark County on transportation projects

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., accuses state officials of telling her one thing, then doing another when it comes to the transportation funds the state is getting in the stimulus package.

"I was assured by state officials in a face-to-face meeting in my Washington office just two days ago that Southern Nevada would get its rightful share of these valuable stimulus dollars for some of our many essential road projects," Berkley said in a news release. "What has been publicly disclosed is not what I was told and is simply not acceptable to me."

She's referring to a document drafted by the state Department of Transportation that has Clark County, home to more than 70 percent of the state's population, getting only 14 percent of the stimulus dollars the state gets to decide how to spend.

Transportation officials have said the numbers in the document aren't final. Berkley demands that Gov. Jim Gibbons make sure they don't stay that way.
